How to Flatten a Cowhide Rug

How to Flatten a Cowhide Rug

Cowhide rugs can sometimes develop wrinkles or creases depending on the
environment - including their storage and transportation - and their use as cowhide rug decor. We provide practical tips on how to flatten your Art Hide cowhide rug.

Ironing Method

For a larger area, use a warm-hot iron over a cloth placed on top of the rug to gently smooth out wrinkles. Work from the centre to the edges. It is also safe to iron directly on to the leather wth a good quality iron and using care, but do not use this technique if there is any metallic foil detail in your rug.

Warm Water Method

If isolated to a smaller area, lightly dampen the hide rug with a warm water mist and place a heavy object on top to flatten the creases. This could include books or a flat piece of furniture.

Weight and Time

Place heavy objects on the hide rug and let sit for a few days to naturally
flatten out.

With these simple methods, you can easily restore your Art Hide cowhide rug
to its original flat state. Hide leather is supple and will always relax over time!
